How do I setup my PlayStation®2 to communicate with my Linksys Router?

Disclaimer – This article is for informational purposes only.  Linksys does not support the setup of PlayStation®2’s.  This document will only instruct you on how to setup the router not the PlayStation®2 it self.  If you need support on the setup of your PS2 you will need to contact Sony.

1.      Once you’ve installed your PlayStation®2 Network Adapter, connect a regular straight thru cable from one of the numbered ports on the router, and plug the other end of the cable into the PlayStation®2’s Network Adapters Ethernet port.

2.      You must set a static IP address on PlayStation®2, do that please consult your PlayStation®2 Documentation, or you can go to http://www.us.playstation.com/hardware/SCPH-10281/install.html#config and setup information is found at the bottom.  For our example we’re setting the IP Address to 192.168.1.20, the Sub Netmask to 255.255.255.0, the Default Gateway 192.168.1.1, and your DNS information.  If you need help retrieving your DNS, your DNS, then please see Answer ID 598.

3.      Once the static IP address has been assigned please go to computer and load your Web Browser.  In windows, go to the Desktop and double click on Internet Explorer (Located on the Start Menu in Windows XP).

4.      Once your browser opens, please type http://192.168.1.1 into the "Address Bar" and click GO or [Enter].

5.      The "Enter Network Password" window will appear.  Skip user name and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK.

6.      This will bring up the router’s "Setup" section. You will need to click on the Advanced tab to the very right.

7.      Once the “Filters” section appears, look at the tabs, locate the DMZ Host tab and click on it.

8.      Once the DMZ area loads, input the IP Address you assigned to your PlayStation®2.  For our example we would input 20.

9.      Click Apply and close the browser and your PS should work from behind the router.
